About Interrail
If you’ve never traveled by Interrail, here’s everything you need to know to get started:
→ Choosing Your Pass
Interrail offers several passes tailored to your travel style:
Global Pass: Unlimited travel across 33 countries — perfect for longer adventures.
One Country Pass: Ideal if you want to deeply explore a single European country.
→ Ticket Flexibility
Interrail passes come in various durations, from just a few days to an entire month, giving you total control over your itinerary. Miss your train? That’s okay too. You can easily change your schedule with a touch of a few buttons in their app.
→ Seat Reservations & Add-Ons
While many trains allow hop-on-hop-off flexibility, some high-speed and night trains require reservations (usually with a small extra fee). Interrails’ easy-to-use app makes booking these super straightforward.
→ Comfort & Convenience
Trains offer spacious seating, power sockets and Wi-Fi on many routes, meaning comfort and connectivity as you soak up Europe’s scenic beauty. And the best part? Unlike airports, train stations are typically centrally located — no expensive airport transfers needed!
→ Sustainability
Traveling by train is one of the greenest ways to explore, significantly reducing your carbon footprint compared to flying or driving. Interrail lets you see Europe while being kind to the planet.
Traveling 1st Class: A Little Luxury on the Rails
We highly recommend spending the extra money to go big and upgrade to 1st class. Here’s why we think it’s the perfect splurge:
→ Extra Comfort & Space: Enjoy larger, more comfortable seats, extra legroom and a quieter atmosphere — ideal for relaxing, working or simply gazing at Europe’s beautiful scenery.
→ Priority Perks: Many stations offer 1st-class lounges, letting you unwind in comfort before your journey (perfect for grabbing a complimentary coffee or snack!).
→ Onboard Amenities: Depending on your route, 1st class often includes perks like complimentary refreshments, at-seat dining options, and enhanced Wi-Fi access, making your journey feel extra special.
→ Peace of Mind: Especially on busier routes, traveling in 1st class often means fewer crowds and more guaranteed seating — perfect if you value privacy or need space to unwind.
Every time we’ve traveled 1st class with Interrail, it’s felt like adding a touch of luxury and relaxation to our adventure — turning the journey itself into a highlight of the trip!
Train Essentials: What We Always Bring
Whether you’re traveling by 1st or 2nd class, these are some of our go-to travel essentials for a comfy and stress-free journey on the train:
- A large tote or backpack that stores easily above the seat: Just like on our fights we also love taking the FRENKY Underseater Vacuum Backpack with us on the train.
- Easy and compact noise cancelling headphones: Airpods are a great option!
- An easy to roll and store suitcase that can take a few bumps along the way. We particularly love SUIT SUIT for its hard exterior and fun colors.
- Snacks and reusable water bottle. We like to keep our water nice a cold so we tend to travel with Stanley!
- A fully loaded e-reader (we have a Kobo!) but you can also easily stream Netflix thanks to the trains wifi!
- Portable charger because you will be constantly filming the views from the window!
- Toiletries and skincare to freshen up during longer rides. You really never know what a train bathroom will be like, so hand sanitizer is always handy.
Where Will Interrail Take Us Next?
The beauty of traveling with Interrail is the endless possibilities. We truly hope we can partner with Interrail again because we can’t wait for our next train adventure — perhaps a scenic route through the Swiss Alps, a culinary journey around Italy or exploring lesser known cities like Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic or Ptuj in Slovenia.
